Friday, October 23, 2026 02:15P
The Career Armor Workshop is a professional development session designed to enhance understanding of how departmental policy, internal accountability processes, and union representation collectively shape an officer’s career. While the training is rooted in law enforcement practice, it is structured for a public audience and offers valuable insight into the systems that govern policing from recruitment through retirement. The workshop emphasizes that policy literacy and labor awareness are essential components of professionalism, risk management, and long-term career sustainability.
This session provides a clear, practical overview of internal affairs processes, including how administrative investigations are initiated, conducted, and resolved, and the rights and obligations of officers throughout those proceedings. Participants will examine the role of unions in safeguarding due process, ensuring fair discipline, and advocating during internal investigations, while also addressing common misconceptions about internal affairs and union involvement.
Additionally, the workshop explores key elements of collective bargaining and labor contracts, including how contract language affects promotions, transfers, discipline, retirements, and pension benefits. Attendees will gain a better understanding of how these agreements are applied in real-world situations and how informed engagement with union protections can positively influence career progression and post-service security. The Career Armor Workshop underscores the importance of informed decision-making and institutional knowledge as foundational tools for protecting both individual officers and the integrity of the profession.
